‘URBAN VOID’

The brief of the competition circumvented around a new leisure center in central Tokyo. The center must fit into the lifestyle of Japanese society while offering a new nuanced and more refined program for entertainment through media rooms for film viewing, An auditorium for cultural events, a shopping center and a multi purpose hall. The program was first compressed to fit into the site and through this method, the building that was realised to be six storeys high. The local bye-laws allowed for 10 floor, which resulted in an ‘Urban Void’, housing an Open Air theatre and Cafeteria above the auditorium and providing a semi public space above the street with a distinct connection.
